Janakpur or Janakpurdham (Maithili: जनकपुर), is the capital city of Madhesh Province in Nepal. This sub-metropolitan city is a central hub for the Maithili language, as well as for religious and cultural tourism in Nepal.
The city was founded in the early 18th century but was retrospectively designated as the location of the capital of the Videha kingdom and the birthplace of Hindu deity Sita, although there is no archaeological evidence to support this.[2]
Janakpur is located about 225 km (140 mi) southeast of Kathmandu.[3] As of 2021, the city had a population of 195,438, with a density of 2,125/km2.[1][4] Janakpur is currently the fourth most densely populated city in Nepal. Janakpur is located about 23 km from the Bhitthamore border with India.[5] Nepal Railways operates a service between Janakpur and Jainagar in India.
Situated near Janaki Temple, Aanand Hotel was established with the vision of providing reliable and comfortable accommodation for visitors to Janakpur. We understand the needs of pilgrims and travelers, which is why we focus on simplicity, cleanliness, and genuine service.

The Ram Mandir is one of the oldest Hindu temples in the city of Janakpur. In the 17th century, it was built by Chaturbhuj Giri. It was later rebuilt in 1782 by the Gorkhali General, Amar Singh Thapa. The architecture of the temple is in the traditional Nepalese pagoda style. The temple is located directly in front of the sacred Dhanushsagar Lake. Within the Ram Mandir complex, there is also a Shaktipeetha known as Rajdevi Mandir.
This temple was built by Amar Singh Thapa in dedication to Ram, the prince of Ayodhya. The Ram Mandir is about 10-minute walk from Janaki Mandir, right opposite Dhanusagar. At the right side of the temple there are many stone idols of the Lord Shiva. The main festivals celebrated in Ram Mandir are Ram Navami and Vivah Panchami. As Ram Navami is the birth tithi (date) of Ram, special bhajans are sung on the day. On Vivah Panchami, some special traditional codes are performed between Ram Mandir and Janaki Mandir as marriage codes to be followed.
